Im 17, my dad recently bought a 2000 Corvette, 6 speed. Hes got a lot of trust in me, and without ever trying before, he let me try to learn how to drive a stick on his new toy. I absolutely cant get the car moving from being stopped. First gear is just impossible to me so far, I cant get the timing right and everytime I start, the car jerks like crazy, drops to 500 rpm, then slowly gets rolling. I never stall, but the jerking is terrible. On top of that, to learn I have to keep using the clutch, and let it slip to start, over, and over, and over again. Id say for about 1 hour I practiced like this. Once i get rolling, I have no problem going from 1st to second, 2nd to 3rd and so on, everything is super smooth, braking, I know how to do it correctly, everything is great except for starting off. Am I ruining the clutch in this learning experience. The last thing I want to do is cost my dad $2000 in a repair for something that I did. What should I do to learn?
what do you mean by use less clutch? i want to try anything and everything, but im so worried that im going to destroy the clutch on a car we got a week ago. should i try giving no gas, slowly release the clutch, then when you feel it catch give it gas? help!!
well acctuly you are
driving is an real easy thing to do with out missing any thing up how ever excuse my english
but i will try to keep it simple as much as i can
yfirst you have to adjust the seat and the mirrors once and frol all to fit you the cait to fit you’r legs to teh pedals then the mirrors and the back so you can cover it all
then gently hit the clutch all the way and hit the 1st gear
move you’r left leg real slow from teh cutch and you’r right leg working backwords with you’r left leg like a skall
move the left slowly up and hitthe gas slowley fdown eually
then u will have agreat start
when u reach the limt of the 1st geart and it will be enough for like 20,000 rpm
hit the clutchgently all the way then slowly move the stick to the seconf gear and do not fight with the stick if yu don’t have pushed the clutch very well
it will destoy the trasmation
what ever
movethe 2nd gear and when u move it right left you’r leg slowley so the car won’t jump
then so the same with eevery gar
good luck and once again excuse my english

After backing up a steep hill and having the tires hop and burnout a little bit my car has problems with reverse. Its a 89 camaro with a 305 and 5 speed. Now when I shift into reverse and let out the clutch it pops out of reverse into neuetral and If I hold the stick in the reverse position it usually will stay but it makes weird clunking and banging noises. Whats wrong with it, do I need to rebuild the tranny.
ya your transmission definitely needs to be looked at. but worst case scenario you wouldn’t have to rebuilt the whole thing. I never looked at a Camaro tranny but what it sounds like is this.
when you shift into reverse it adds this 3rd gear so your wheels turn backwards instead of forward ( because your engine only turns one way ). basically you have these little detente balls that hold the stick in place , and if one comes out it’ll cause this symptom and you can hold it there with your hand but if you drive too fast backwards the stick will kick your hand back and you’ll probably be hurting for a day or 2 lol. the weird noises might be the detente ball floating around grinding gears so get it looked at right away ! also check your tranny fluid because low fluids will cause bizarre noises.
GOOD LUCK !

What happens is that when i depress the clutch, i can feel the pressure drop quickly and if its in gear it will start to move forward with the clutch fully depressed. If i release the clutch, the pressure restores to normal. I have to shift quick and bumper to bumper traffic is just out of the question. I did have the clutch bled 2 weeks earlier since i believe there was air in the lines. Don’t know if i need to get it re-bled professionally or if its the master cylinder failing or something. Thank You!
more than likely the slave cylinder on the trans. is leaking. watch under the truck and have someone depress the clutch pedal. the fork depress and stay that way. If it oozes back with the pedal down you have a leak somewhere. bad seals in slave unit, bad cup in master

I was driving at about 65 mph in 5th gear, I shifted to 6th and I no longer had power. The engine continues to run but no matter what gear I engage, it is like I am in neutral. Any idea what the issue might be?
It sounds like your pressure plate is stuck disengaged. Most likely a foreign body is wedged somewhere. Would be a good time to replace a clutch. Or you can try to pry it free.
A clutch is very easy to change. Buy a new clutch (plate and pressure plate) and have one of your buddies come over. After a case of beer this should be going.
Buy a book for torque specs and simple diagrams.
If you decide to take it to a shop, go to a VW shop. These are almost identical to put it for less money.
